FAQ

  • What type of weather should I plan for?

Okinawa is a sub-tropical island in the East China Sea, about halfway between Southern Japan and the Philippines. The weather is about what you would expect - Hot! But not too hot in early fall. Expect highs of around 80 degrees Fahrenheit, which will feel hotter due to high humidity. It is usually quite sunny, but can also rain intensely at times. Umbrellas are sold just about everywhere.

  • Will there be airport shuttle service?

No, but you can show a taxi driver the address of the beach house and they will get you there just fine. Japan is probably the safest country on Earth so you shouldn't have any problems at all.

  • Which airport should I fly into?

Naha is the big city with the big airport in Okinawa. You will need to connect through Tokyo or another mainland Japanese city to get there. From what we can see, ticket prices for this time are quite a bit lower than usual right now! (From the USA)

  • What is your refund policy?

20% of your payment is considered a deposit. The other 80% can be refunded if requested before February 1, 2024.

  • Will there be alcohol?

This will be an alcohol free retreat.

  • I don't speak Japanese! How do I get around and communicate?

Nick's wife Charity was born and raised in Okinawa, and speaks fluent Japanese. She will be your local guide and interpreter (as well as Nick to a far lesser degree). You are also encouraged to download the Google Translate app to your phone. It can help you to both read and converse in Japanese should the need arise.

  • Are the daily optional excursions included in the price?

We wanted to keep this affordable, so we have left those out of the price. Luckily, Okinawa is not a very expensive place to have fun! After you sign up, we will send an email with a list of potential excursions and their costs. You can let us know which you want to join, and pay us using Paypal, Venmo, Zelle, or mailing a check. We'll set up the excursions and group taxi rides ahead of time so its all set to go effortlessly for you. Excursions will happen in the afternoon between Qigong sessions. Those who would rather relax on the beach and read a book instead are totally welcome to do so ;)

  • How bad is the jet lag from North America or Europe?

We recommend flying in at least 2 or 3 days ahead of the retreat to get acclimated. We will send you some recommendations for local hotels, tourist attractions, and restaurants that we love. You will likely be surprised how inexpensive things are!
